Additional Samples of Speeches
The following examples are scripts, outlines, and preparation tools I used for public speaking styled courses, or they were unique projects that involved other communication skills that utilized speaking to others for an assignment.
COM 122, Critical Decision Making - Extemporaneous Speech
- For our critical decision making course final exam, we had to an extemporaneous speech, which meant we had limited time to prepare, and when the time was up, we had to each present in front of the class what we wrote and came up with for the topic that was given to the whole class. The topic for the class was tornados and safety measures that the university should implement.
COM 123, Public Speaking - Persuasive Speech
- For my public speaking course, we had to give a persuasive speech to our lab section with a topic we had the freedom to chose. This is an outline of my persuasive speech I gave for the class. The topic I chose was about how we should do more research on a cure for Type 1 diabetes. I chose this topic, since it is near and dear to my heart, and my brother is a Type 1 diabetic.
COM 348, Argumentation - Outlines for Constructive Rebuttals, and Parliamentary Debate
- For my Argumentation course, the majority of the assignments throughout the semester heavily involved public speaking in front of the class, as well as debate style presentations. The following documents are outlines for my Constructive Rebuttal, and Parliamentary Debate that shows preparation and notes on the topics that were given to us for the assignments.

COM 210, Oral Interpretation and Literature - POI Duo Presentation
- In my Oral Interpretation and Literature course, this was another example of a class with assignments that not only involved public speaking, but almost performance like presentations we had to demonstrate to the class. Our big assignment for this course was a POI, which was a cumulation of different passages of literature, or any pop culture passages that were involved within one topic. This POI was a duo performance, and our focus was on toxic relationships. We pulled things from various avenues, including some scenes from the show FRIENDS, and references of Gossip Girl characters.
