Striving to be a Global Leader
- People have asked me why I wanted to go to school out of state, and why I wanted to study abroad all the time. To be honest, I wanted to make an impact on my life by experiencing a new culture, meet new people, and learn more academically as well as learn more about myself.
- How I want to carry this topic out into the real world is by encouraging others to take that leap of faith whether it is going to a four year college out of state, studying abroad in a foreign country, or any opportunity that comes your way.
- Through material I learned in my organizational communication course my junior year, I was able to tie my topic toward a leadership and contribution aspect.
- Through research, I found that there was a way of "coaching" people in ways to assimilate into a new culture. In the article Coaching Corporate Nomads: Cross-Cultural Relocation and Reentry, Arthur Freedman describes people who stay in a place for a long period of time as nomads (Freedman, 2018, 270-271). He goes on by explaining the purpose of these "Coaches for Corporate Nomads" is to help these nomads, especially in a corporate setting, to anticipate the many cross-cultural challenges that these people aren't aware of yet in their new culture (Freedman, 2018, 273-274).
- In a leadership aspect, I want to bring more awareness to other about taking up opportunities in their life, since there are so many beneficial factors to taking a leap of faith.
- In the article, Study Abroad and the Development of College Students' Travel Venturesomeness, Moody et. al. helps paint the picture by saying "college students' travel patterns and preferences are emerging at this stage of life... develops a strong thirst for more travel or wanderlust, and a willingness to be more venturesome in their travel along with their sense of overall cultural openness" (Mody et. al., 2017, 128).
- As a global ambassador for ISA, we promote that idea toward everybody in that it is a wonderful experience to study abroad since it enhances the openness to new culture and travel.
